Max Wisshak is one of them. His specialty is the study of Karbonatkreislaufs, the world’s oceans. Caves are his great passion. In his amazing illustrated photobook ‘ Inside Mother Earth’ has raised the stages of a photographic journey made in different speleological explorations.

The photographer’s lights illuminate details of geological formations – stalactites with impressive columns of ice – and large areas of deep caves as well as other subterranean destinations reached by this extraordinary photographer, geologist, paleontologist and speleologist. Four Catholic men and a Catholic woman were having coffee in St. Peters Square Rome……

The first Catholic man tells his friends, “My son is a Priest. When he walks into a room, everyone calls him ‘Father’.”

The second Catholic man chirps, “My son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room, people call him ‘Your Grace’.”

The third Catholic gent says, “My son is a Cardinal. When he walks into a room, everyone says ‘Your Eminence’.”

Life is a Gift

Unexpectedly is the key word in my update today!

There may be many reasons why the best things in life are unexpected.

“The best things in life are unexpected because there were no expectations”

This is life……..unexpectedly!

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind.

She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her.

She told her boyfriend, ‘If I could only see the world, I will marry you.’

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.

He asked her, ‘Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?’

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn’t expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left her in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: ‘Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.’

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

This expression wisdom ‘Life is a Gift’ from God. I hope you get as much out of it as I did.

Crystals in the Sand; THREE WORDS

Very often, people remember the stories and jokes even after the message of a speech are forgotten.

As children we learn about good values from fairy tales that remain in our minds long after we have passed childhood. Adults also learn better through stories that encapsulate the main principles and drive home the point.

This story comes from the heart of a child who willingly decided to share his experience – some are good, while may be bitter, but are indeed “crystals” in their own rights. And yet, could be used for reflection and inspiration for others.

So the next time something seemingly “ordinary” happens in your life, look a little deeper and closer, these pebbles may turn out to be crystals after all.

The Mysterious Staircase

Explanations for the mystery

The subject of rumor and legend for over a hundred years, the riddle of the carpenter’s identity was finally solved by Mary Jean Straw Cook, author of Loretto: The Sisters and Their Santa Fe Chapel (2002: Museum of New Mexico Press). His name was Francois-Jean “Frenchy” Rochas, an expert woodworker who emigrated from France in 1880 and arrived in Santa Fe right around the time the staircase was built. In addition to evidence that linked Rochas to another French contractor who worked on the chapel, Cook found an 1895 death notice in The New Mexican explicitly naming Rochas as the builder of “the handsome staircase in the Loretto chapel.”

The supposed “miraculous” nature of the staircase. The staircase has been claimed to be unsafe since its helix shape may make it oscillate just like a very large spring. To appreciate the architectural and other problems such stairs present we must recognize that builders use turns in staircases to save space or to adapt to a particular floor plan. As to its apparent ability to stand without a central support (central pole), however, this staircase appears to have a concealed central support, an inner wood stringer of a very small radius that, because of its small size, functions effectively as a central pole. This technique is well known. In addition — and this seems to have gone unnoticed by those who choose to emphasize the “mysteries” of the staircase — the outer stringer is attached to a neighboring pillar via an iron bracket, providing extra structural support.

As to the wood, that it has not been identified precisely means little. The wood has reportedly been identified as to family, Pinaceae, and genus, Picea — i.e., spruce, a type of “light, strong, elastic wood” often used in construction. But there are no fewer than thirty-nine species — ten in North America — so that comparison of the Loretto sample with only two varieties can scarcely be definitive.

All in all, nothing about Loretto’s design of manufacture evidences any sign of the miraculous. The Loretto Chapel is now a museum and no longer functions as a church . Call it an inspired feat of engineering, call it an aesthetic triumph — the spiral staircase of Loretto Chapel is the work of beauty and deserves its status as an international tourist attraction.

The case was investigated and subsequently re-enacted in the Unsolved Mysteries episode “The Staircase“.

“A Reason, a Season or a Lifetime?”

Those of you who, like me, have people come and go from your life, would probably find some solace from the slides.

Granted, people come to us for a reason, a season or a lifetime, but we will never know which it is until….they leave, especially the “seasonal” friend. We can identify the “reasonal” friend – that is the one who comes to help us out when we needed it most, or to give us a lesson in life. And we can only hope that our good friends are lifetime friends, but will we ever know for sure? If we cling to them, and they turn out to be just “reasonal” or “seasonal”, we suffer, don’t we?

The “simple” thing to do with friendships and even family, then, would be to take each moment as being precious and valuable. Do not look back at the past (especially the quarrels!). So, each time you meet your friend or loved one, think of it as the last meeting in this lifetime. Do not have expectations or everlasting friendship for the future. Just cherish the present moment, just as we cherish our breadth, and make the encounter a pleasant and memorable one. We will continue meeting in many lifetimes if we are kammically destined to do so.

The British Sense Of Humour

The British have the best sense of humour. British have developed sarcasm and irony into an art form, have the best and most surreal sitcoms from the television world. British sense of humour not only mocks and satirizes authority figures and sacred cows but spills over into relationships with colleagues and friends with witty banter and sometime relentless mickey-taking! also is self-mocking. Self-mockery is not self hatred – it is merely recognizing that our flaws and imperfections are funny and we are big enough to laugh at them.

Perhaps, the inherent good nature of most British humour is the reason why it travels so well: it ensures that other nations with varying standards as to what is and is not appropriate in humour feel less threatened by it than they do by many other types of humour.

Oh yes, and humour is how British spell humor, it is not a typo!
