Check out this clip from NTV’s “ Super Surprise ” featuring a guy who has trimmed his hair to look exactly like a hat.

The narrator introduces him as “Danny, a man who has never taken off his hat for 20 years.” It does not take very long to figure out that his hat is actually his hair, which he has carefully groomed into the appearance of a hat.

Apparently,  he was once so poor that he could not afford a hat, so he decided to grow his own. Now, wherever he goes  his presence catch people attention.

Chopsticks are made from a variety of materials: bamboo, wood, plastic, bone, metal, jade and ivory. Disposable chopsticks are made from bamboo or wood. Bamboo and wood chopsticks are cheap, low in temperature conduction and provide good grip for holding food due to their matte surfaces. They can warp and deteriorate with continued use. Almost all cooking and disposable chopsticks are made of bamboo or wood.

But,  no matter where you live, the fact remains that disposable chopsticks are made by clear cutting forests for the wood. On a recent updates, apparently, China’s Ministry of  Commerce has sent out a warning to chopstick makers in June to warn them that they will face local government restrictions: “Production, circulation and recycling of disposable chopsticks should be more strictly supervised”. The restrictions are aimed at decreasing the use of the throwaway utensil… – LA Times

Let us begin with China’s 1.3 billion populations. In one year, they go through roughly 45 billion pairs of the throwaway utensils; that averages out to nearly 130 million pairs of chopsticks a day. And the export market accounts for an additional 18 billion pairs annually.

Greenpeace China has estimated that to keep up with this demand, 100 acres of trees need to be felled every 24 hours. Think here of a forest larger than Tienanmen Square — or 100 American football fields — being sacrificed every day. That works out to roughly 16 million to 25 million felled trees a year. Deforestation is one of China’s gravest environmental problems, leading to soil erosion, famine, flooding, carbon dioxide release, desertification and species extinction.

However, if you compare 100 acres per day to the size of China’s forests, it still isn’t that much as China is a big country, but chopsticks are far from the only thing pressuring Chinese ecosystems.

The Bring Your Own Chopsticks movement has been gaining momentum, but is still far from succeeding in changing people’s mindset. But there is some hope on the horizon: As China grows richer, more restaurants will be able to afford the equipment to wash and sterilize reusable chopsticks.

Parables are stories with the potential to disrupt the narrative of our lives – to point our life in a new direction. They can shake up what we know and push us – gently – into viewing the world and ourselves in a new way.

A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and said, ‘God, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like’.

God led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s  mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But, because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

God said, ‘You have seen Hell.

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, ‘I don’t understand.’

‘It is simple,’ said God. ‘It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.’ The greedy are always left unsatisfied with no matter how much they have achieved in life.

The photograph of Lady Liberty formed by 18,000 posed soldiers was taken in July 1918 at Camp Dodge, in Iowa, by photographers Arthur S. Mole & John D. Thomas. It was intended to help promote the sale of WW1 war bonds unfortunately, it was never used. In fact, during WW1 years Mole and Thomas had created incredible human images using thousands of soldiers or sailors dressed in woolen uniform to create images.

According to information, the design for the living picture was laid out at the drill ground at Camp Dodge, situated in the beautiful valley of the Des Moines River. Thousands of yards of white tape were fastened to the ground and formed the outlines on which 18,000 officers and men marched to their respective positions.

The day on which the photograph was taken was extremely hot,  neared 105 degrees F and the heat was intensified by the mass formation of men, and apparently some men fainted. The dimensions of the platting for the picture seem surprising. The camera was placed on a high tower. From the position nearest the camera occupied by Colonel Newman and his staff, to the last man at the top of the torch as platted on the ground was 1,235 feet, approximately a quarter of a mile. However, the appended figures below will give sufficient idea of the distorted proportions of the actual measurements for this photograph.

Incredible as it may seem as there are twice the number of men in the flame of the torch as in the whole remaining design, while there are 8 times as many men in the arm, torch and flame as in all the rest of the figure. It is noted that the right thumb is five feet longer than the left hand, while the right arm, torch and flame is 8 times the length of the body.

Jack-Jack Attack is a 2005 short film produced by Pixar based upon their film The Incredibles. It was not given a theatrical release, but was included on the DVD release of the film.

The short is based on the youngest member of the superhero Parr family: the baby, Jack-Jack. Kari McKeen, Jack-Jack’s babysitter started experiencing difficulty with him shortly after hanging up the phone with his mother, Helen Parr (Mrs. Incredibles). Kari tries to calm Jack-Jack down by showing him flashcards. All goes well until she shows him a card of a campfire, causing Jack-Jack to burst into flames.

This short film shows Rick Dicker, a government agent assigned to aid “supers” in maintaining their anonymity, interrogating Kari about what happened when she was babysitting. During the interrogation Kari says she wishes she could forget the whole event, to which Mr. Dicker promises to help her to do so by erasing her memory.
